Election Day 2024: What’s open, what’s closed? Is it a federal holiday? Is it a state holiday? Banks, mail delivery, stock markets

Election Day 2024, which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 this year, is a state holiday.
New Jersey voters can start heading to the polls when they open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
People will be able to cast their votes for president, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and local governments.
This follows a week of early voting across the state from Saturday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Nov. 3 that broke records for voter turnout.
Here is what is open and closed on Election Day 2024 in New Jersey.
Election Day is not one of the 11 federal holidays for 2024.
The next federal holiday is Veterans Day, which is observed on Monday, Nov. 11.
Election Day is among the 12 state holidays in New Jersey for 2024.
Two of those state holidays are in November in addition to Election Day. Veterans Day is on Nov. 11 while Thanksgiving Day is on Thursday, Nov. 28.
Yes, mail will be delivered on Election Day.
Yes, post offices will be open on Election Day 2024 since it is not a federal holiday.
FedEx and UPS will also still make deliveries.

Most public schools will be closed on the state holiday in New Jersey. However, the decision over whether to close schools is entirely up to local districts as well as private and parochial school leadership on Election Day.
An increasing number of school districts in New Jersey have decided to close schools on Election Day so that school buildings may be used as polling places without the security concerns of having students present. Other districts have decided to relocate polling places to non-school locations over the same concerns.
It’s best for parents and guardians check their child’s district school calendar to confirm if they’re closed.

Stock markets will remain open on Election Day. Nasdaq trading and bond markets also will be open.
All Motor Vehicle Commission offices will be closed. Additionally, all New Jersey state offices and courts are closed.
NJ Transit, PATH and SEPTA will operate on normal schedules.
For NJ Transit, riders should use NJ Transit’s online trip planner to double-check arrival and departure times.
Polling places are assigned based on your address. The New Jersey Department of State provides a polling place lookup tool for New Jersey addresses.
Registered voters should have received a sample ballot in the mail listing the polling place.

The next federal holiday is Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11. Two other remaining federal holidays are Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 28 and Christmas Day on Dec. 25.
